Shielding
Content Description
● Shielding consists of a player planting themselves between the ball and opponent, so that their competitor physically cannot reach it. ● This requires a reasonably wide stance for balance, with the centre of gravity lowered, and the weight carried in the leg closest to the challenger. ● It is permissible to lean with the outer shoulder, and even lock a raised arm in order to keep the opposition at bay, but the focus must be on protecting the ball, and not pushing the other player away. ● Should they attempt to navigate around one side, use the sole of the foot next to the ball to drag it in the other direction, keeping yourself in between the two with minimal effort. ● Shielding relies not only on physical distance, but also vision.
