Diamond & W Grip
Content Description
● The ball is caught with the fingertips ● Elbows bend sharply to absorb the momentum of the shot. ● The thumbs touch slightly, as do the tips of the index fingers, creating a diamond shape ● The other fingers wrap around the ball as it is caught, ensuring a firm grip. ● This approach is known as the diamond grip, and is suitable for younger players with smaller hands. ● W-grip, which is better suited to play with a larger ball. ● Relaxed hands are extended forward in preparation ● The thumbs again touch each other across the centre of the ball as it arrives. ● However, the hands are instead turned out slightly, with index fingers pointed diagonally away from one another. ● This creates the W shape across the back of the ball, allowing the other fingers to wrap around the sides for security.
